OK hands up if you bought birds from the Albany Bird Park this week. I know a few Thousand dollars worth came from Mandurah and Bunbury way, not to mention every state except the NT.
We stayed away as long as we could then Rob caved in and bought a female Alexandrine called Ellie who is beautiful and lands on you the minute you enter the avairy and eats from your hand and refuses to get off when you want to leave. Also bought a breeding pair of Superbs (Barrabands) which are gorgeous. The we went back the next day and he bought a pair of Moustache parrots and I finally gave in and bought a breeding pair of Scaly Lorikeets which I have no idea what to do with as I haven't kept nectar eaters before. But they were irresistable and they love each other so much, they are beautiful to watch preening each other and cuddling all day. So that was over a thousand dollars we really didn't need to spend. The avairies aren't for sale until later in the week when the new owners take over. By the way in case you didn't know they are appently going to bulldoze the place and build a Liquor Distillary so we'll probably go there even more often ;D Also I heard a rumour that nearly all the tame free flight avairy birds have all been sold together and are going out to Nippers Cafe which is a Marron farm I think just out of town.
So anyway before you ask I havent taken any pictures of our new additions yet so you will have to wait a bit for those.

It all kinda happened in a hurry, they have 3 scalys left and some red collars and some rainbows but they will only be there until Wednesday I think. We paid $100 for the breeding pair (They were asking for $120 but we bought other birds so they knocked a bit off the total price)

hey jen can u do me a fav (ill wire the money) can u please duck in there and grab me a pair of the scaleys, quote] You better ring me soon then as they are shutting the doors wednesday. I went out there again today and got some wet food and dry food off them and will go back wednesday and buy the rest of their lorikeet food when they don't need it any more. They have the most Beautiful big sulphur there, she is real show material but they will only let her go to a really special home. She is the most magnificent example of a sulphur I have seen and sooo big but i can't afford her. She lays out on top of her cage like a big BOBBA-cat and lets you scratch her head etc. I took Andre and Macca out to my Mums today and stopped at the bird park on the way and the girls there just adored Macca and kept clucking all over him. The interesting thing was that the owners both immediately said that while he is more than likely out of a sun conure pair they were absolutely positive that somewhere in his gene pool there is some nanday conure in there. They also said they were pretty positive that Andre is a girl so it will be interesting to see if that turns out to be true. Another thing i thought was amazing is that the owners don't plan to keep a single bird, not even one....Except maybe the sulphur if they dont find the right buyer. I recon that would be really hard to go from so many beautiful birds to none at all but they feel after having so many it wouldn't feel right only having one or two. Oh and in answer to the hurry question, the place has been for sale for ages and ages but they wanted to sell it as a bird park not let it get demolished, but then everyone has their price and the new owners are building a distillery there instead. It is right on the waterfront looking out at the harbour on the way out to our magnificent coastline and the whaling Museum etc. rumour has it they paid 2 million for just the land etc so if thats true I guess it was too good an offer to pass up. Leaves room for someone else to start a birdpark in town though...One powerball..... ;D

Well finally I have got around to taking some pictures of the birds we bought from the bird park when it closed. We went back and bought a double avairy off the new owner and our friend bout a triple which we helped him move as well. Wish i had taken some pictures of the move as it was a huge job. First we had to rip half the roof and walls and fence down where we wanted to extract them from and then we had to get a hiab (truck-crane ) to lift them out. The new owner plans to bring in the bulldozers this week and he was kind enough to let us get in and salvage what we wanted that would be squashed otherwise. We got a good quantity of nearly new box steel and galv sheeting which we figure will be enough to build a huge Eclectus Avairy when we move and probably another avairy as well. It was a shame what we had to leave behind though as there was a massive triangular shaped avairy but it was concreted in and just too much work. We also got some avairy doors and some sheets of really good weldmesh off him. well anyway here they are... The moustache pair (which have to share with our ringnecks until we move) Pip & Pop - My Scaly Lorikeets ..I love these guys already ;D Ellie - She is beautiful and talks already. She says "Who's a pretty girl then" I am so glad we got her because the other bird that was in the cage with her died in the fire the next day. We are kicking ourselves and wish we had bought the other one too but we couldn't have forcast that one unfortunately. And finally the Barrabands/Superbs, sorry the pic is not that good. well thats it for now Jen

All the birds are gone now as far as I know. There are certainly none at the birdpark anymore with demolishion just a few days away. The prices were reasonable on the birds we bought although not excessively cheap. Only is you consider we didnt have to drive to Perth to get them. The owner went on a bit about pure bloodlines but you can only take that at face value really. I think they wouldve been asking top price for the sulphur. She was huge and I heard the owner refer to her as a $1000 bird although I am not sure what they were actually asking. Like I said she was magnificent.
