OK, I am so angry I don't know whether to scream or cry. This is an Angora that I rescued from a pet shop today. It is hard to see how bad she is. This is after I have started clipping her. You can see she is knotted to the skin. The clippers are overheating trying to get through. I am not angry with the shop that I got her from at least they took her on and tried to rehome her. The other pet shop however is selling Angoras and Cashmeres and there is a lady who is breeding them to keep them supplied. These are high maintenance animals and they are being sold to impulse buyers who have no idea what they are getting themselves into. The person I am most angry with is the lady who is breeding them and selling them to the pet shop. She surely knows the consequences of doing this! How many others are there out there in this condition?

Yes and I couldn't leave without her. The pet shop had no idea what they were dealing with. They have had her for 3 weeks and hadn't clipped just brushed the top of the coat. You could feel how knotted she was underneath.
Poor little girl. It is going to take me days to clean her up. I just hope she is not fly blown underneath!!!!

I have nothing against breeding and selling from home. I occassionally sell some of mine. At least then people get care sheets and some one they can come back to for advice. With Angoras they need to be shown how to groom them and look after them and see an adult in full coat so that they can see what they are taking on. I always clip mine at the beginning of summer so that they don't suffer in the heat, the coat is wool not fur. I also have a return agreement that I get people to sign so that I get the rabbit back if they find that they can no longer look after it. The agreement also states that they won't sell any progeny to pet shops.

She is one very lucky bunny that you saw her and are taking care of her. I bet she's stunning when her coat is properly looked after.

I finished clipping her today. She looks so little and pathetic. There is not much rabbit underneath all that stuff. It is also a pretty terrible excuse for a clip but I am not going to hassle her any more. She is now comfortable and can move her legs and move her head to groom herself. She was very excited about being able turn her head and scratch near her tail. There were no nasty surprises so I am happy about that. She is a sweety with a gorgeous temerament.
She will be in quarantine for 2 weeks to make sure she is not carrying anything that can be passed on to my rabbits.
I will post a pic so you can see how funny she looks tomorrow. I would never earn money as a groomer.

Well what about Britney for a name, didnt she have all her hair cut off not so long ago! Sorry there goes my warped sense of humour again but I still think the name is cute for such a cute little bunny regardless of Britney Spears. Jen

I thought you might like to see a pcture of her now. As I said to Nadine, I didn't think she was a pure Angora, I thought she was crossed with something. well it turns out she is all "something". Once all the knots were gone her ears were able to do what they were meant to do. She is not in full coat yet but she is getting there. Can you get the "something" breed right? It is not a very good picture of her because my camera gave up the ghost after this one pic, I will post another one if I can get it going again. I have named her Bonny - short for "bon chance" or good luck.
