My ringnecks get grey sunflower seeds [grey sun flower seeds are better for them], fresh fruits and veg, mine love apples, carrot, corn on the cob, pears, two fruits are their treat. they also love peanuts in the shell,[yes I know people you should noyt really give them peanuts, but this is a once a week treat.] they love me for it though. Oh I also give them vitamins and minerals on their fruit every 2 days or so.

why shouldn't they get peanuts? ours get them all the time? not too many, but a couple every few days??? they are un-salted ones, especially for animals??? We feed our lots of fruit; dry small parrot seed all the time and sprouted pidgeon mix, sunflowers and/or oats. We also give all our parrots whole branches off of our eucalypt trees that are full of nuts! we also give some nuts, almonds and pea-nuts! and have recently been getting crushed macadamia nuts for $6 a pretty big bag, which they love! oh yeh, boiled egg too when they are laying and/or have young

Peanuts are of the legume family..Nothing wrong with them. You just have to keep on eye on mold that can grow inside of them..The macadamia nuts are very high in oil Peter. I would be cafeful with them..I also noticed that you have open and crushed them..Not a very good idea..The oil can go raniced...Put them into the frezzer and take what you need at a time..

I have a number of ringnecks, both handraised and breeders, I also give mine gravillea flowers and stems, pine cones and gum nuts (the large ones) Ringnecks love chewing and alot of vegies like carrots are simply chewed for the fun of it, my guys don't get as much fruit when they have other things to chew on because I find they seem to eat less (or waste less as the case maybe) I've have had my handraised ones for 3 yrs now and I hate to say it but they will have a little bit of whatever we eat and even the odd sip of soft drink, I have never had a problem with them so it all comes down to a little bits is ok too much is really bad, I also remove the sunflower seeds completely from the handraised birds seed and only offer it when they are with me, that way I never have trouble with them not comeing when they are called because I have the goodies.

when i originaly got him with his mate they came from perth so th freight may have had somthing to do with it i usto feed then peachface mix (budgie seed with little sun flower grey stripe) and fresh fruit and veg every day consisting of corn, carrot, peas, beans, potato, brockaly, and the occashional strawberry as they are expensive i also gave the a fruit and nut mix 2 times a week which consisted of dried fruit and diffrent types of nuts i hope wot i was feeding was not adding to the problem but as Ringneck saw all of my ringnecks befor they were sold that cock bird was the only one that was plucked and they were all fed the same food

Peanuts are okay, but you have to watch them, I have heard of some ringneck getting a peice of peanut stuck in their throat, and dieing, peanuts have alot of oil in them, so to many can cause overweight, almost everything is okay to give to your ringneck in moderation, elka's fav food is cooked pasta and nutergrain, never give any bird avocardo, Anyway I am just letting you know on what I have been told and what has worked for me, Everybody has their own way or opinon
