A few months ago there was a cat hanging about, especially at night time. I thought it was just a feral cat, however 2 weeks ago at night my Mum and Dad found it at our front door with its collar wrapped under its front leg cutting deep into its muscles. Obviously he was someones pet and they dumped him out here when they got sick of him, he would love to spend all his time inside but some of us are allergic, unfortunately we get cats and dogs dumped in our area several times a year. His wound smelled terrible and was very deep, the poor cat was just skin and bones with a little fur, I think he has been run over too on his tail. He now stays in his basket on our front verandah and is regaining his strength because he gets fed alot now. I do not like cats really, but this one has suffered so much, yet he remains so loyal and friendly, even when we were cleaning his deep wounds. I think he will stay here for the rest of his days now. I am planning to enclose the front verandah on one side so that he does not wander and kill birds, etc later on, also so that he doesnt get run over. Here are some pictures of him, I dont think we have settled on a name yet but it will come with time. Any suggestions would also help I guess!

He looks like a "Tiger" to me. What we have to try to think each time we see cats attacking other animals (including our own) is " it's not the animal you hate.....it's the owner!"

So far mittens has stuck! Ralph off The Simpsons has a cat named mittens so thats sticking. I also call him many other names, lol. He will be confused soon. He is looking better every day and his new fur is growing over the chest and legs. He still has a wound that opens up alot on his tail I am not sure if it is an abcess or not, if it persists I'll get the vet out to take a look at it. He is a smart cat, never goes pout the back where the dogs are and always tries to come inside, lol.

Hey guys - any update on how puss is going??? Its a shame what people do. There is so many kittens for sale and free in shops and the papers at the moment. My receptionist at work was all excited because her cat had kittens the other day and of course I got on my high horse about the importance of steralisation, etc and she just didnt 'get it'! What I don't understand is why people, as a general rule, have to wait until their kittens are 6 months old to get them steralised when the Cat Haven here in Perth do them from about 8 weeks provided they are correct weight and healthy. I also don't understand why its so BOBBA expensive to have it done - if every vet clinic in WA, or Aus for that matter, did one cat free a week it would cut down on a huge number of unwanted kittens each year. Whew .... sorry .... just had to get that off my chest. See this is why I was never any good at owning a pet shop, I didn't just sell them off to anyone - people got the 3rd degree and a lecture first!

My receptionist at work was all excited because her cat had kittens the other day and of course I got on my high horse about the importance of steralisation, etc and she just didnt 'get it'! That's cause people are naive and will never "get it" It's just like saying to someone "your dog's barking is annoying me" It doesn't bother them so why should they think of you? You could argue with people until your blue in the face and they will never listen or understand, people just don't care What I don't understand is why people, as a general rule, have to wait until their kittens are 6 months old to get them steralised when the Cat Haven here in Perth do them from about 8 weeks provided they are correct weight and healthy. Can people take their kittens to cat haven and pay them to have them steralised at 8 weeks? If they do PEOPLE BOYCOTT VETS!!!!!! I also don't understand why its so BOBBA expensive to have it done - if every vet clinic in WA, or Aus for that matter, did one cat free a week it would cut down on a huge number of unwanted kittens each year. Because like in every other part of life, we need our piece of the pie too! Money makes the world go round.....just like the wheels of their $80000 car See this is why I was never any good at owning a pet shop, I didn't just sell them off to anyone - people got the 3rd degree and a lecture first! And that my dears is why I wish to work in a pet store.....to educate the nits out there and maybe talk the ones who aren't suited out of buying that puppy thats "oh so cute" this week that'll sit bored in their backyard next week annoying the heck out of me!!! Ahhh my rant is over now too! whatever you do don't look at my blogs...oh boy do I rant ;D

I am totally with you guys. I didnt relise that kittens could be desexed so early!! I have always been told 6 mnths, hence the reason my cat fell preg before I got a chance to desex her! I admit though it was exciting. But as soon as the kittens were weaned and gone snip she went!! I always gave people the third degree when they were looking at buying my staffy pups cause you get the idiots who want to use them as pigging dogs or to cross breed to get pigging dogs, or for fighting/security dogs ect. yu had to be really careful, andybody that looked "rough" didnt get one! So I know they all went to good homes

Yeh - from 8 weeks they are done at the Cat Haven, which is brilliant because most kittens that leave there are de-sexed before you can take them. Anyone can take their cat / kitten there to have it done. I think it costs $75 for desexing - I know that is still quite a cost, but it's cheaper then anywhere else I have come across. And if people can't afford $75 to get their cat fixed then they shouldn't own a cat - because in the long run owning a pet will cost you a whole lot more than $75!

Wow $75 is pretty cheap, when I was getting puskah done the cheapest was $110 lucky I had desexing vouchers which bought it down to $55 so that was a bonus!!
