Hi all
I got a new hand raised cockatiel this morning it is now 8:03 PM and it has not stopped eating . I'm worried It mioght be over eating and might get really sick or even die . I never delt with one tihs young before never handraised any of my own birds I brought and very very worried about I hope someone can help me . Its only 9 weeks . Cheers

Hi Nathan, I would think that the bird should be fine. Birds usually do not overeat as they seem to know when they have had enough, however, if they are not getting enough excercise then they can become fat. When you say overeating do you mean seed or handraising mix? If it is seed he may still be learning how to eat properly and therefore dropping alot of the seed out of his mouth as he feeds and it looks like he is eating too much. Hope this helps and please let us know how he goes.

your bird is probably weaning its self. Just make sure that it is eating seed and just keep trying to feed it

Hiya - I have a young tiel who spends most of her time sitting in the seed bowl eating. I agree - I think it is just part of the weaning process. If you actually watch him closely you will probably find he is dropping most of what he is picking up while learning to crack the seed.
