Well after splurging $1400 on a 4 year old pair of Eclectus from a breeder, I was contacted by someone a day later who used to work at the zoo with me about a pair of Eclectus. They are severely feather plucked, the female cant fly due to the damage and the male is only about 1/4 plucked on the body. I got them for nothing as I was offering them a good home. I have packed the aviary full of Eucalyptus leaves/branches and offered fruit, veges, sprouts, small parrot seed, pellots and flowers for them to eat/destroy. Where they came from (will not mention the place!) They were kept in a small aviary with a bowl of small parrot seed and one perch that was 100 years old. They do not have mites or beak and feather as they were fully vet checked for everything by the previous owners. I am giving them Ivomec just incase anyhow. Its a challenge I hope to win enough that the female will fly again! I aim on putting in a box soon too, more for their interest, I do not aim to breed them in this state! My $1400 pair arrive on Sunday as the breeder is up north. Friends brought 4 more pairs off the same guy, he has many pairs and is selling out of all the breeders. I will poist pictures as soon as Peter gets home and brings the camera with him! Wish me luck in stopping this problem.

Ok here are the long awaited pictures! Apparently I forgot to get a picture of the feather plucked male but he is much better than the female who is in a shocking state. He has only plucked his chest and back a bit. Here is the poor hen: We have since discovered that she talks alot! Believe it or not this is a picture of her since she has been here about three or 4 weeks and there are more feathers on her than when she arrived! The following is pictures of my breeding pair that I purchased: and a pic of the nestbox that they WILL breed in! haha

She is georgous
You can here her calling "Hello Darling" all the time. She eats all her fruit everyday, and gets around the cage alright. She has lots of toys and branches and some other birds in with her to keep her amused....so hopefully more and more feathers will return....

Looking at that poor girl breaks my heart, she has the sweetest face and to think something upset her so much she would do that to herself is heart breaking. Please keep us updated so we can see her get better again.

I have some sad news. A few days ago the poor male died. He was eating fine, and was the least plucked. He was fat and otherwise seemed healthy. Both were wormed. I have put it down to the great deal of stress he must have gone through, first being locked in the cocky cage with no stimulous for ages, then shifted from there to a friends house and then to our house. I wish we could have prevented it. The poor girl has pinned for him a little bit, but she seems to have moved on. The best news ever is that she has got several very large pin feathers comming in her back wing and stomach! Fingers crossed all goes well with her. And now we are on the look out for a cock bird to be friend her.

Oh the poor girl, I would love to see more pics as she gets more feathers. Keep up the good work. Didn't your friends have a male Ekkie on his own that they took out of the communal avairy? I guess they probably found a girlfriend for him already. from that first picture She looks like she would be a lovely bird with all her feathers. Whats her name? Hope it all works out for you. Jen
