I take it that Kak's will breed well in a colony setting?

Look good Mark. One day I plan to have a colony, so far I have 2 pairs....... Justin from what I have heard they breed well in a colony setting. So far mine get along really well together playing and carrying on all the time.

They don't always breed well in a colony setting, most kak breeders I know breed in pairs as the males can get aggressive, the yellow fronteds are more placid. I Have one pair per avairy. I can't have my pied male with any other male because he is highly aggressive!!! But then there have been some people that have bred successfully in colony breeding them. Just be careful to Mark that the yellow fronts and the red fronts don't breed together as you will end up with hybrids which is realy not good when it comes to kakariki.

Mine refused to breed in a colony setting and the guy I sold mine too also said that they are very hard to breed that way as they try to dominate over each other and get very territorial. I regret selling mine.

I think it also depends on space, my aviary is 7 metres long and 3 wide, they have so much room that they seem to get along ok. I will watch out for dominance issues in the future however! On another note, I had a look at some yellow fronteds the other day, I didnt like them, they were all googly eyed, lol. Maybe they were just a bad example though.....lol.

I think the Yellow fronted are better looking than the red fronted. My pair were gorgeous, loved coming up and talking to you through the wire.
