I guess the season is starting again....
I have Caiques & Hahns Macaws getting their nestboxes ready. Our Illigers Macaws are on eggs as are one of Timneh Grey Pairs.
I've got BLue & Golds and others getting testy with myself & my friend Donna who with her husbands houses my Large Macaws & Greys at her house.
Here is hoping we're in for a great season.

Justin, I am concerned that your friend Donna has more than one husband after reading your post!!! Tell me though, why is it always that whenever I see you have started a new thread I get this uncontrollable jealous feeling before I even start reading...is it a virus you attach to your threads or something else do you think?  GOOD LUCK anyway I am sure you will have a great breeding season as usual  |

That sounds like a good start Justin So far so good. I have a feeling though that this year is going to be as weird as last year. I've got White Front Amazon hens wanting to nest at the moment. These guys don't usually go until March. I've got African RIngnecks courting each other. I'm waiting on new flights for them so their all flocked together in a large macaw flight. i've got horny males feeding other males then turning and feeding hens. I forgot to ask why it was you had bad season mate? |

awww man that really sucks Mark. Sorry to hear that mate.
it's heartbreaking when stuff like that happens. But the best thing to do is just keep moving forward & know that everyone has a bad season from time to time.
I always look at it like this.... At least they're not Hyacinth chicks dying in the shell. At 10,000 a bird over here having 6 die or even 1 or 2 would make it really hard for you.

Well it makes it hard for me as these birds were supousto make me the money to advance to the next stage of birds / mutations for the future
I also need to build 23 new suspended aviaries
All i had survive was 5 normal rainbows and 1 split pied Kakariki and 3 of those Rainbows went to the Hand Raiser as payment for H/R them for me
So i ended up with $240 for the season which will just be enough to pay for lorikeet mix for 6 months so we might have to sell some of the birds to pay for feed other wise we can not afford to keep them !
Well will have to see how things go !!

We rely on the money coming in from the birds to buy new birds, buy feed, buy new flights etc etc etc. People think that because I sold 15 White Bellied Caiques last year that I'm rolling in $$$$. I only roll in money in my dreams lol. People don't see a feed bill here running into the 1000's - that includeds dry food and fresh fruits and vegetables too. The money I get coming in from the birds goes right back into them in the way of feed, new perches, toys etc or new birds. Most of the time it's going back to my partner who is my bank manager lol. I'm lucky to walk away with a couple of hundred a month profit if that when all is said and done. |

Mark I am keeping my fingers crossed for your upcoming season! Hope it is alot better now the birds have settled in! Justin, good luck with it all and do not forget to share some pictures of the troops with us when you get a chance! I know where you are both coming from with the money, every dollar from every animal we sell goes into a special account just for improving the collection here, it pays for fruit and veg, seed, hard feeds for the guinea pigs and livestock and anything else we need like medication or speacialty feeds. We normally scrape together enough so that we don't have to dig into our own pay but more often than I would like we still have to pay with our own money. Its a challenging hobby and I doubt I will ever make a profit from it but I enjoy it too much to let that worry me as it is the least of my concerns.

My Decision has been made im selling some off to cover bills and expences
Just enough to cover feed
I had to use my cerdit card a few times to buy feed and now they need a big payment so ill sell some off to cover it
Any one interested in a mature pair of nanday conures ?
