I know you guys are in the middle of summer over down there and I envy that so much...
We're in the middle of winter here and it's the coldest it's been in 10 years. it's been getting down to -6 -7 at night. I get up at 6am to feed babies. Get outside and all my water dishes are frozen. The birds are ok though. All are well weathered so I'm not worried too much about them. Some need boxes but I don't want them laying right now for fear of them getting egg bound.
They look at me like they're saying - you know I wanna lay give me a box.

I'm with you Jules - BRING ON WINTER .....
Animals are amazing creatures aren't they - how they climatise so well. Its a pity we can't as well! Although I could certainly handle -7 to 40 ...
We use iceblocks to keep the water cool over here - what do you do over there to keep them from freezing?

I heard of un unusual but very cheap, easy way of heating your avairies the other day. Get a garbage bag and fill it with compost material, grass clippings ect, dampen contents, put in a tin garbage can an sit in the sun for a few hours to heat up, then place the garbage can in the aviaries it apparently works for a few days as a good heater!!

That is an unusual way to heat up an aviary... Not that I have that problem here... it's 42 today...

Never heard of that heating idea, sounds good! Yes we arent having a very hot summer here in Perth, I dont think it has even hit 40 yet! But we freeze water bottles and give them to the animals top lick and lay against and it seems to help. The aviaries all get wet with the sprinklers several times a day when it is hot.

Hey Justin can we swap? I hate summer, I don't handle the heat very well but I love winter. ;D you don't want to swap trust me.... I wouldn't wish this cold on anyone. Summers I can't take either. I much prefer the spring time here when it's around 75 - 80F Last summer was one of the hottest on record here. It got to 116F at one point for 3 days straight. 116F is actually 46C. At night time the temp didn't drop below 33C on those nights. It was a BOBBA let me tell you.

i want to swap! trust me! lol, im so over the heat!! i hate it! and where i work its like being locked in a overn for 9hrs! cant stand it! i think i spent about $40 on water the other day cause it was so hot! and my poor birds just sit there panting all day. we've already lost 3guinea pigs, 2 rabbits, a few mice (lucky the pregnant female didnt pop till after the heat died down a bit) the dogs spend the day in the pool aswell and its way to hot to go out and run the horses! cant stand it!!!!
