I am amazed with all these birds that keep coming into the yard. These are what I had this arvo - I have never seen them before. Can anyone tell me what they are??

They look like smokers but a bit more green.

They are Regent Parrots or more commonly known in the west as Smokers or Smoker parrots..... don't know where they got that name from! How cool to have them in your back yard!

They are Regent Parrots & also get called Rock Pebbler, Black-tailed Parakeet, Smoker, Marlock Parakeets.
They might be females. Females have more green & darker greens thatn males do. You are so lucky!!!!

There seems to be a lot more parrots around atm. Down here this year we've had heaps of 28s, red caps, rosellas, galahs and redtail and whitetail black cockatoos, more than in previous years I think.

Yeah we saw tonnes about your place Bel! It looks like a pair, male at back and female at front but do not quote me on that. WA Smokers are more dark green than SA smokers, just subspecies separated for some time I guess colours change over time a bit. I am pretty sure the name smoker comes from the way they talk when they are hand raised it sounds like an older person who smokes, a real crackly voice.

Not sure Holly, from what I have heard they are easy enough to raise, kinda like raising a princess or a king parrot, they take to the mix pretty well and are pretty hardy birds! Good luck with them and let us know if you have any questions.

Cool - I have never noticed them in the area before - but to be honest I always see a lot of 28s - from a distance they are all green - so coulda been smokers to!
