I'm looking at getting my first 'caged' bird and was wondering which kind to get and how much each breed is worth. I'm kinda partial to rainbow lorikeets (except for their projectile poo LOL) but I'm open to suggestions so please help.
Cheers, Jules

I guess it really depends what you want & what you don't want in a caged bird, also the size limit of the bird. I've heard of some RL are great caged pets & others only good for avairy life. Personally I think the galah or Eclcetus are the quietest & have the most gentle nature of the bigger birds. Of the small ones I guess the most obvious, weero's, lovebirds, budgies. With the Aussie parrots, some aren't ideal pets & others are. You could look on the net for profiles of different bird species.

Like what KimF said Jules....what do you want in your bird? Also How much are you willing to spend? Some birds like Sulfur cockies are down right expensive over in WA and some other birds that an eastener would recommend may be illegal over there.

I'm thinking maybe rainbow lorikeets, ringnecks, eckies or maybe princess parrots. although I could just start with someting like tiels. I want a bird who has personality and will be a good companion.

Maybe a tiel is a good start.... meet the birds and spend some time with them before deciding. Rainbows are loud, messy and well Boofie has a sharp beak which slices like a knife....he's also bonded to my partner and doesn't really like me much. They tend to bond with only one person.

I agree as a first bird a tiel would be the best bet they have cheeky personalities and RL can get bitey! But are good fun for a bit more experienced bird owners perhaps?

silvercloud, my family has had both a galah and a supurb parrot. both had there qualities. we've had the supurb for about 16 years now and he is a great pet, speaks a few words and what a porsonality. they wont bust the bank. a princess, supurb or a regent parrot would be a good choice. plus they are little bit bigger then a teil.
