I guarantee the jobs win out in the end! It has happened countless times before and will continue to happen until the day we kill this planet, and trust me that day will come, probably much sooner than most people think! It is disgusting to think that this could be the only planet in the entire universe that has complex life and we are going to turn it into a barron rock like the rest!

I would applaud Peter Garrett on his difficult decision to ban the forestry industry from continuing to destroy the habitat of the little Superb Parrots. You know they have said there are only 500 of these little birds left in the wild!!! 500, and when they are gone, that is it - extinction.
Those people who have found themselves unemployed due to this decision have other optins although it may seem harsh. They will get help from the Govt in the form of centrelink benefits and possibly retraining if they need for another industry. But nothing can be done for extinct species.
So yeah, they have done the absolute right thing here, and let us hope there is more of it. We need to step up and start being accountable for saving species, rather than killing them all off.

i'm sorry people please dont get angry wit me for this reply , but i've been bought up in the logging industry and while i can see others points of view without the timber industry a lot of families wont survive the next few years my family is one of them and i for one can say i've neva bn so scared of what the future holds for my family as in 3 yrs time their will be nuthin left for people in tha lower south even interstate workers and i can say i've neva bn so d**n angry my father is one of the 1st casualities and it sux , so i'm so sorry but if it means a beauitful species of parrot has to be made extinct so be it i'd rather 1000 families still have jobs cause a lot of country people need to survive as well what will be do when theres nuthin left
