I often read of birds feather plucking their chicks. Does anyone know why the parents do this? Vitamin deficiency, boredom, don't know what to make of the new screaming, constant attention, hungry bubs? Maybe post natal depression! lol

It offent happens to me with my budgies... I find it is because the parents are wanting to mate again and think by plucking the kids they'll get out quicker... Hope some other members can help you too...

As LB has said it can occur with parrents who are prolific breeders, and are wishing to start a new clutch of eggs. They pluck the babies to try and get them out of the way faster.
But it can happen for several reasons I believe. I agree with you when you suggest deficiency, boredom and even frustration with the babies. Another reason could just be that the bird has a bad habbit.

Thanks for the replies LittleBudgie and Peter. There seemed to be more people commenting on their birds plucking their chicks and I was wondering if seasons had anything to do with it as well. Thanks again
