What are wyandottes like to keep? Are they flighty or mellow? We have some game crosses and they are so scatterbrained, LOL, but nice to have around/ Do wyandottes lay well? Any info would be really appreciated. I really like the look of them, especially the gold laced.
Cheers, Jules

Hi Jules, Wyandottes are generally nice, placid birds. It all depends on how they were raised though! I believe that they are a kind of dual purpose bird, good for eggs and meat, therefore they do not lay quite as well as some other breeds that were developed specifically for laying. I have kept partridge wyandottes in the past and they were great birds, rarely fly much and layed nice sized eggs. If you do get some please let us know.

No cos Johns game crosses had more bubbies and there wasn't any room and now that i'm in town my house doesn't have a chook pen. I did see some a while back at the Boyanup farmers market which happens once a month at Boyanup, I think that theres chookies for sale at Bunbury swapmeet/market as well but I haven't been there yet so maybe when you come down south again you might be able to find some.

Cool ... don't know when I will be down again though. You wouldn't believe it but they sold the Binningup Caravan Park and we got a letter from the developers advising that everyone will have to vacate the premises soon as they will be building "tourist" accommodation. What a crock hey. Meanwhile now we have an onsite van that is no longer road worthy to dispose of .... sheesh! If you know anyone who wants a van let me know ... LOL Needless to say not sure when I will get down that way again!!

I know .. and whats sad is you have to travel way way way down south now to get any real old fashioned beachside holiday accommodation. I can't believe the prices of housing, etc, down that way now to - you pay just as much as the city. They are advertising beach front "strata" apartments in Bunbury from $600,000 - can you believe it!

And the blocks are soooooo small. We saw some advertised that were less than 300sqm for around $200,000
