Yeah you sure can. The problems with keeping cavies is heat, draughts, moisture. Heat will kill piggies before cold would. Direct sun or hot days will kill, make sure it's housed in perminant shade or somewhere you can move it during the day. Draughts thru gaps in the cage will give them a cold and so will rainy weather if they get wet or sit in water. You may have to worm them regularly if it's open soil on the bottom.

The avairy is in shade in summer due to the huge Celtus trees in my yard....In winter the trees drop their leaves and the avairy will get sun.
Some of my ideas for adapting the avairy
For the summer heat...i'm looking at making an insulated house within the avairy itself...the house would have a solar fan to help keep air moving...that with the use of frozen bottle or a cooling mat should be suffucient to keep them cool.
Around the base of the entire cage i was going to put clear corregated roofing sheets...they should be high enough to stop any major draughts and winds. Plus the insulated home they can get into (that naturally will have the fan off and no cooling devices in it...a layer of paper, then shavings, then hay will assist in keeping them snuggly warm)The avairy will have roll down tarps on the sides for nights and wet yucky days.
The piggies will require worming...the avairy does have a dirt floor, which again, will be covered in the layers mentions above.
They will be checked at a minimum of 2 times a day...my son will probably move in down there anyway *LOL*. The avairy can be padlocked. It is vermin and animal proof
The piggies will not be moving into it anytime real soon...as time will be needed to get it right..and at least a summer testing to make sure it doesnt get to hot for piggies to cope with
Any other ideas you can think of?

I think you have it all covered. You can use small animal wormer or Ivomectin for the worming. You have thought of everything else (notice how our animals eat, sleep and live better than us?!?!!)
