Well no literally lol. I decided after reading about Justins friends Amazon that died from the fat around its liver to try my herbie on pellets, as i love herbie I would hate for anything to happen to him. Well he loved the pellets but they turned him into a screaming, biting monster all he wanted to eat was pellets and he just screamed and bit. I decided to take away the pellets and within days he was back to his lil loving self and hasn't screamed or bit since. I was wondering if the same thing has happend to anyone else? This was with vetafarm pellets, tropican pellets and another brand.

Bubbles,
Pellets are fine for birds in moderate amounts just like seed. Vets over here are still recommending an all Pellet diet for birds. It's easy for them to recommend it especially when brands such as Harrisons - which are a good brand incidently, are continually giving them great discounts in exchange for carrying only their products at their clinics.
Tests are coming back now showing birds on Pellet only diets are are showing similar symptoms to birds that are on seed only diets. Obviously little damage is done in the short term but long term effects are similar to symptoms experienced by those that have been on a bad diet for years and years.
To be honest & this is what I do here, I firmly believe in moderation. Birds in the wild eat, fruit, leaves etc etc and seem to have a natural instinct to balance out their diets which is passed down from their parents.
In captivity, the health problems that occur from a bad diet in breeder birds & our companion birds can be directly attributed to us. By providing our guys with a well balanced diet they're getting a wide range of nutrients that they need. You can give your little one a few pellets and seed a day or just one or the other. Balance it out though with fresh and cooked stuff. Sprouted seeds are great and contain a ton of phytonutrients which promote healthy feather growth as well as other benefits too.
I think in the end the decision is yours about continuing to feed them to him. If your worried about him biting and screaming then I'd probably cut them out.
Best of Luck.

Our ekkies eat lots of pellets, they love them. But I do certainly believe that different brands have different effects on different birds. We use the Vetafarm Maintenance Pellets with absolutely no side effects in Monty or Charlotte. The people that bred them suggested that brand so that is why we use it. They have 4 or 5 pair and feed them mostly these pellets and the usual large quantities of fresh fruit and vege. Hardly any seed at all. One question though, Did Herbie eat just as much as usual? And did you start by mixing pellets with his normal seed until he got used to them? What I am asking I guess is you don't think he might have been telling you he was hungry with all that screeching was he? Easy to tell if he cleaned the bowl right out without spilling much but I have noticed when trying something new they sometimes crunch a lot of it but most of it ends up on the floor. Actually reading your post again it doesnt really sound like this was the case anyway. Sorry not much help am I

Herbie doesn't get fed any seed, he gets fruit and veg and cooked grains and sprouted seed. He seemed to like the pellets, they just made him hyper. My husband thinks it is due to the preservatives that are in them as herbie is essentially an organic bird he generally only eats fresh food and I try to limit any chemicals in his diet.

A brand of pellets can do really well on 1 bird & not another. They should be 100% natural for feeding ekkies. Ekkies are very sensitive to pellets & diets in general, more than other parrot species so you shouldn't feed them a majority of pellets a day.
