Yesterday I got home from going out and opened Herbies cage to let him out onto his stand. I also had with me a couple of friends who went into the lounge room and turned the heater on, whilst I was in the kitchen making Dinner. I went into the Lounge room to ask if anyone disliked chillis. Upon seeing me enter the room Herbie tried to follow me and instead slid and landed on the heater. As you can imagine I was screaming and to make it worse Herbie clung to the heater and wouldnt let us pull him off. By this stage the heater had been turned off but was still hot. Let this be a lesson make sure that heaters are never on if a bird is out and let your friends know this too.

We have a Sunbeam micre FURNACE heater (it is around $300 Expencive and small) but well worth every penny it does not get hot to touch it has a temp setting which cuts out when you desired temp is reached If it tips it automaticly cuts out (switches off)
This is my recomendation to any one who has a heater in the bedroom of has pets or children

I make sure my heater is off evertime my birds are out. My tiel Scooter landed on it one day when it was off luckily, but it proved to my kids why not to turn it on when the birds are out!!

Very lucky Bubbles! I always worry about heaters and fans, I once had a quail fly into a ceiling fan on full pelt, it didnt die but the smack into the far wall was terrifying. It reminds us how careful we have to be with pet birds!

We had a Scarlet baby fly into the ceiling fan this evening. Luckily the fan was on low and wasn't spinning fast but still managed to knock the poor thing for 6. He' was fine and more shocked at what happened. We were not so lucky last summer when we had a Parrotlet fly into a fast spinning fan.
