I though perhaps we could tell each other of some good bird toy inventions made at home. As we all know parrots get bored easily!!!! And some of the toys out there are expensive!!
I have come up with an idea of filling a paper towel roll with goodies, birds fav of course! Could be peanuts, sultanas, seeds, cereal(mine LOVES nutri grain) ect, and tape some paper on the ends so the food stays in. They have a ball trying to get into it!!! and are rewarded for their efforts!!!17777777777777777 hehehs orry that would Kieko jumping on the keyboard!! Cheeky!!

I went and brought some lovebirds from someone...and omg his avairy was also...he uses golf balls and bits and pieces to make all different shaped hanging things...uses the sides off play pens as perches and also had 5 golf clubs strung up as perches..coconuts as nest...clay pots for nest.. it was untidy looking like a recycled rubbish tip but at same time was so different it was great...

I went to WA salvage and bought a couple meters of the white plastic chain link stuff and hung it from one end of the cage to the other and hung things off it all the way along. I used shoelaces to tie everything up and hung things like the plain dog rawhide treats, toilet rolls, sections of thick branches, corn on the cob, etc. I would rotate them often and change out the different types. You could pretty much hang everything from it.

Here are some things you can use to make toys with:
straws sisal rope jute 'pony' beads (the kind of beads used for kids hair) paper plates adding machine paper foam beads liberty bells wooden spoons cellophane
I hope that helps and always always know how your pet plays and remember that NO toy is 100% safe. These parts have been okay'd by my avian vet.

Hey Kim when you say foam beads- do you mean styrofoam (sp? - i'm hopeless hahaha) Cos I was told that there is a product (similar to a chemical put in them) and they are lethal to birds. We have bought and started to make our own toys with vegetable tanned leather, beads, and these new things that we found called scoobies( will post some pics later) . Other then that we use basic things like laces or calcium bells, those egg shaped container things that you put the food in) and we are forever trying new things now (our ringies have reached their destructive phase- I thought we got lucky as when we first had them as bubs they just played with the toys now the rip them to shreds hahaha. I was shocked to see that they had chewed away at this startwe had made in one w/e. (when i came home my bf tried to tell me it had always been round- haha)
