Wow a fellow fan! I adore footrot flats. We used to have all the books too but I have no idea what happened to them after I left home unfortunately. Promise us you won't call her Gussie pleeeaaseeeee!!! Chilli is a good name though I recon. But I do like "Dolly" even if it wasn't the name of the sheep ;D

Some how I don't think I'll be the one who names her, and I dont mind. Choosing names is so hard. It will be something to go with cecil.
Kim, he will be the common sub species, and could possibly be a hybrid of the two. I know his parrents, and I also know the parrents of the female (fingers crossed).
The best bit was, that my friends put together and got me a custom built aviary. It is fantastic. It will out live me! I will take pics for you all.

It really varies between birds Peter. Monty coloured up quite quickly and had lost all the black in his top beak by the time he was 3-4 months old but others don't until they are nearly a year old. And then again I am pretty sure I recall that your friends have an adult male quite a few years old that still hasn't coloured up completely and still retains a partially black beak because I thought it must have been a young bird until I was told differently. As he gets older make sure he has plenty of nice natural branches to rub his beak on and that might help him remove that outer black layer and encourage a nice healthy beak.

Don't you worry! He'll be getting alot more than just branches! I think he'll be getting everything humanly possible!

Eddie had no black. He did have a little brown (not much) which went at a very early age. Like Jen said it can vary. They're big gutsess Peter. They will gladly eat everything humanly possible, even if it means snatching it from you or prying your mouth open to have what ever you're having they will make sure they don't miss out!!

Well he doesnt have a black beak at all, it is like light cream on top!
all his rice bubbles disappear, but i never se him eating them! He is a guts! He almost mauled my face for food today when I got home. He was being silly and wouldn't eat his fill this morning, so only got half fed. So he was hungry when I got home from work!
