I found 2 baby blue tongues in our yard today!! I knew we had an old one around, sometimes saw him/her but I didn't expect to see bubs! By the time I grabbed the camera one had already disappeared. This one was only about 20cm long, the other one a tad bigger.

CUTE! Did you know they give birth to live young? Strange isn't it! Great to see native animals still around!

They have very unusual markings for blue tongues, is that a WA thing?

A blue toung is a type of lizard, sometimes known as a skink. It litterally has a blue toung, and pokes it out when it is scared. I am pretty sure this is a WA type Amanda

I agree Amanda! Its scales look rougher even? Great to see them out and about! My dog has caught a couple here and has gotten into big trouble for it mind you !!! Unfortunatly I was too late both times!

Yeah, the scales on these ones are quite rough looking. We also get a few other skinks, which have smooth scales. But the rough ones are more common. You see them dead on the road all the time

The are usually called shinglebacks and stumpytails over here. I think technically we don't actually get blue tongues over here but they are all closely related and both of ours also have blue tongues so that's what they get called.

Must be a WA thing, LOL didn't realize there was a difference either....they do have pretty rough scales. John as Peter said they have blue tongues & we also call them bob tails, for obvious reasons.....
Peter, ever seen the skinks around bedfordale or roleystone? Now they're BIGGER than the big blue tongues!! Very scary. they look like the tiny little skinks everyone is used to seeing but they're HUGE! Next time I'm there I'll take my camera. Dave's folks have them on their property.

Duh LOL bobtail not stumpytail LOL We've got those big black skinks here. They just cruise around hunting little critters. We even have a racehorse goanna or 2 that show themselves sometimes.

We have small dark grey skinks here, they are smooth and shiny. We also have salamanders or maybe they are gekos that you can find running around at night, I never thought to take pics of them. I will have to bring my camera every where now so I can share some of the things we have here.
