Well this is something different for us. Our 8 week old baby Alexandrine is already showing his black ring which i can't understand as I thought they didn't get their ring until they were about 18 months old like the ringnecks. Here are the pictures, (he did't want to pose for the camera either) has anyone else had this happen with an alex before? (Peter, perhaps you could ask "CM" for us next time your over that way) Here are the parents...

I Have seen some babies with a ring that have turned out to be hens, but never that dark! That is amazing. I'll ask CM for ya, but out of all his babies I cant remember one with such a dark ring. I would consider getting him DNA sexed so you dont have to wait a year or two to acutally find out.

I think that is almost certainly a cock bird. Strange to colour up that fast but each bird is different and you may find he stays like that for another year before anything else begins to develop. Love the pair, they are really nice looking birds.

im keeping the one i love no matter wot anyways, mine r getting the rings aswell, the one i thort was a hen im sure now its a cock bird, its got a dark ring forming and under its his chin and theres a line of feathers that r alot lighter then the rest of them, so it formes a light green ring that realy shows ;D Anyways i tried 2 get photos of him and u can kinda c it, but i got a vid aswell coz it shows up beter in the vid. And the one i thort was a cock bird (and i still do) is starting 2 get dark feathers under his chin but its harder 2 c, so im not sure anymore This is the one with the ring, the one i thort was a hen but im not sure its a cock And now heres my fav, his ring isnt as easy 2 spot And now both of them, my fav one was checking out the weeros And this is the vid, u can realy spot the ring in this one!.... and i think i got the weeros aswell IF my one does turn out 2 b a boy im gonna name him either damien or lucifer (probley lucifer) coz i love the sound of those names + i recon alex males look evil (there eyes) when they grow up! ;D but dont get me wrong! i dont worship the devil hahaha

Thanks for putting a downer on that Peter Luckily "he" has a nice flat head like most blokes which makes us think he is still male He came out of the nest box today and as we think there has been a nasty old rat lurking in the avairy which has so far avoided extermination, Rob decided to bring him inside. Rob has been taking him out of the box everyday for a cuddle to try and keep him a little tame even though he will be an avairy bird. I think the picture shows it has been successful. He loves to snuggle up under Robs chin. He is a little more cautious with other people but rob has been the only one to handle him so far.

AWWWWW! Of course rob is a male holly! lol, just kidding! Look at that big scary man melting down with a baby alex. I think if you spend lots of time with it, it will make a great aviary bird. Teach it to take food from your hands and that it has to land on you to get the treat. Trust me, if its scared at first, the temptation of a treat will take over.
