Awwww shucks guys! Thanks so much! Yeh I love my girl .. she's turned into a great bird .. considering once upon a time I was ready to give her away!
Yes I agree that Jack (I named him Jules .. haha .. original name I know but it had to be one the boys could remember) should come and stay at my house for a while! lol
Saff's diet .. well it consists of this;
- her main diet consists of asian veges and a mix of various other veges. So twice a week I do a vege shop and get a mix of the choy's (which I also give the chooks) and things like bean sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, string beans, snap peas and celery. They are the things she will happily eat daily and lots of. So I cut it all up in a container ready to go - half the container is asian veges. Thats the bulk of what she gets daily. She has never been a big fruit eater .. but is getting better. I will often chop up a pear or an apple or something and mix it in.
- Chilli's .. there is always chilli's in with her veges. She LOVES them. The little ones she loves the best. Just don't give your birds kisses after they have eaten one unless you can handle the heat .. haha!
- I make a pasta dish for her which is basically just pasta and tinned veged and beans. I make up heaps and freeze it in bags and defrost when she has it. Served hot of course. She loves it.
- She always has a museli mix in bowl in the cage. I just buy the natural museli from the natural section in the supermarket and add to it some of the various seeds and nuts you get in the same section.
- And I'm always giving her odd things like yesterday I cut up some apple and put a spoon full of peanut butter on it. She LOVED it. Or I will peel a mango and just give her the whole thing to devour. And she loves pomegranates (word of advice .. do not feed inside .. soooo messy). She loves mushy weetbix and sao biscuits with vegemite on them.
Because she spends a lot of time inside on her stand and because I am usually eating something - I tend to share it. But honestly .. I swear by the asian vege's. They say the dark green vege are the best for them and their feathers, etc! Basil used to have masses of stress lines, etc through his feathers, and they had all but gone just before he died.
Oh and Almonds. She loves almonds and I put them on almost everything for her.
She always has small parrot mix seed there. I'm sure she only eats the sunflower seeds which probably contributes to her shiny coat. They reakon too many sunflowers aren't good .. but she gets such a varied diet that I'm not stressing about it.
I tried pellets once upon a time but she never ate them.
She hates showering or being wet with the hose but loves bathing in her water bowl. She does it once a day and totally submerges herself. Its a real sight to see I must say .. haha!
But yeh .. thats about it really! I tell you what though .. my weeros get the same asian vege mix and they are all in lovely feather too! Definately worth a go : )
