Well thanks to Jen stopping on the side of the road 2 help a sick bird im now taking care of my 1st rescue animal. a kookaburra. we THINK its eaten something thats poisoned him, but not 100% sure, so I'm gonna see how it goes over night and take it from there. It hasn't eaten anything, but it still has really good weight on it so I'm not to fussed. i just have 2 tube feed it some water throughout the day with some Polly aid in it, and if in a few days it doesn't start eating then ill have to look at rearing mix or blended food. either way i have Carrol and sue (animal careers down here) helping me out so it should hopefully be ok. Ill try and get some photos 2Moro if it makes it threw the night

Good luck with it Holly. Kookas are stubborn sods and really keep that beak clamped shut if they don't want to eat. Make sure you have plenty of insectivore mix as you'll need to coat a lot of its food in it.

yes it is, i think his going to be fine, his gotten ALOT more alert as the day went on, his outside now soaking in some sun since its such a nice hot day in albany. his got a peice of chicken in his beak but thats as far as it got cause his not eatting it and jules, i know whatr you meen by them being stubbern sods now lol, he keeps on doing that 4 me, making it hard 2 get the water down, but i still manage I got some photos aswell but i need the lead. one thing thats not really so good is his still letting me pick him up no hassle, but he is watching me very closly. the sooner his well the beta, he can get moved into a bigger cage where he can fly ready 2 be released, and i cant wait to do that

Good work Holly! I personally do not agree with Kookaburra releases but I am still glad he was ok, maybe he was stunned by a car collision?

Kookaburras are not native to the south west, they are an introduced species from the eastern states. However, at this stage they are so widespread that they are considered naturalised and there is nothing we can do to control them now so we may as well allow them to breed freely I guess!

I agree with Matt but it is great that you did so well. It does make you feel good when you can release an animal back in to the wild.
Well done. You will have learnt a lot from helping him too!
