Hey guys
I was just wondering if any of you have an security pre-cautions for your birdies?
We have just invested in locks for all our aviaries! There are a few people who know where our aviaries are that I do not entirely trust! We also have 4 gaurd dogs, that would make it difficult for anyone to get in!
Is this a concern for other people? Do you let people come and look around you aviaries you dont know! We only let people we trust look properly!

all my aviaries are locked with more than one padlock, they are all under our highset house and all gates and doors are locked too. Our verandah is enclosed and latched from the inside and I do not invite people I don't know to come and see them. If I'm selling a bird I bring it into the house for them to see, I don't leave it near my other birds. It is a big thing these days and I'd say dogs are the biggest deterrants, with locks you just cut the wire or rip the door off!

I have recently put locks on my aviaries too and I have my dog too... But then again I don't have birds worth heaps of money. I think security should be a thing for everyone weather big or small.

yeah! It is a shame that we have to worry about stuff like this at all! I used to feel safe leaving my car unlocked at home (no one ever comes down our street) But a few months ago my bro's car got stolen from out the front! Such a shock and an eye opener!

It is very sad that we cannot trust people like we used to be able to years ago! I remember my grandmother used to leave her house unlocked when she went out anywhere, and she lives in town!!! It took alot of convincing from my mum for her to start locking up about 15 yrs ago, lol. I dont really have that worry about my bird being stolen as I dont have anything expencive only budgies, my rosella(good luck anyone who tries to grab him!! Prob lose a few fingers!!!) And my rainbow lorrie is always inside and when he is out dorrs only when I am home and can keep an eye on him with the dog about as well!

That's the thing Guys, people will steal ANYTHING!!!! Breeding pairs of budgies even. People this year have had breeding pairs of lorikeets stolen, budgies, green ringnecks etc most pairs of birds to the value of under $100! You can't take the risk, if someone wants it they'll take it!

We padlock our aviaries and the dogs are always out, our maltese shih tzu may be small but she notices anything and is right onto it which makes teahupeu go running out too

Well, I have locks on my suspended cages (the only cages that have birds in them at the moment) I have a dog, but she would lick you to death before even contenplating hurting you, but just having her, is a deterent in itself. The other birds (rainbow lorikeet and red collar) are inside and when ever I go out, I ALWAYS put the alarm on. They are in the corner as to not set the alarm off, but im not sure if they would as our alarm is a heat sensor one. But just incase I have them out of the rang, but you have to be in the house to acually get to them.
-shrug-
Prolly need better locks on my averys.
