Hello Guys,
Has anyone else noticed that the bird markets have come to a halt along with many other things due to the financial crisis thing?
I have noticed a massive drop in alot of bird values in the last few months, and also, birds tha are being advertised are not selling as quick, they are in the paper for weeks and weeks when normally they go in an instant.
Have you guys also noticed it? What about in other states?
It is funny how this "crisis" is affecting so many things
I guess the big issue with birds is that unlike many other animals, they are kept for both enjoyment & love, but also most bird keepers expect a return from their breeding.

I feel the increase in the price of seed not long ago had a large impact too. Alot of people are more selective about which birds they are keeping. Before we tended to just let the birds breed and fill up the avairies and then sell off the excess but now we are not so keen to have nest boxes in avairies with birds that the off-spring are harder to sell such as ringnecks. When the price of feed outweighs the return it is just not viable to keep some birds that won't ever sell for much. We tend to keep the more expensive birds and cut back on the ones that won't pay for their upkeep. We are not expecting to make money out of keeping birds but like them to be able to pay for themselves so they are not actually costing us money.

It's like that over here Peter. The market is just now starting to move a little. I've still got Military Macaw babies from last year along with Caiques, Blue Crown Conures & some Green Cheeks. I've reduced the price on the Blue Front Amazons so that they can sell and even then the people buying them are still moaning about the price. I'm like come on.... I dropped $300 off the price.

Yeah I noticed it too Peter... I also noticed alot of pet shops and some people selling didn't have high quality birds... More and more birds seem to be dropping in their quality... Such a shame....

Justin I will take ten! lol. The economic slowdown is annoying though, especially when prices seem to continue to skyrocket and wages coninue to be left at very low levels for most!
