Hi Sam, My Kings are currently working the log so I have my fingers crossed for a good outcome from this breeding season. As for my strange looking Rosella I am stuck for ideas as there are so few mutation Pale Heads about there is nothing to compare it too. I have it paired up so hopefully they bond before the season gets into full swing.

Compared to the wild ones here she looks like a young rosella. I don't think she is a cross or a mutation, just very dull in her colour. In some birds it's diet related. Did you just recently get her? My little man is a different subspecies to yours. He's also a special man, as you can see in the photo. I thought I had a thread on him here but I can't find it!

Hi Amanda, I have had this bird for a few weeks now and as it came from a pet shop I am not real sure of its age, I own 7 pairs of Pale heads both Pieds and normals and i have 2 subspecies (I have 2 pairs like your bird) and my strange lil rosella doesnt match a discription for any of the young i have produced from them. Young Rosellas are normally seen with red feathers on their heads this bird has no red but alot of black feathers a little or no white/yellow feathers on its head where as other young still retain the 'Pale Head' I have her paired with a normal coloured cock bird so time will tell what it is.

In the photo's she looks like she has some red on her face. I have seen some very dull pale heads, I knew a work colleague who raised a little hen and she was very pale and down her back was more orange then gold and she came from stunning adults whose offspring were varied. But like you said it will be difficult to find out if it is a mutation, here's hoping she gives you lots of beautiful babies My poor little man was from a pet shop, they were trying to flog him of as a breeding male!!!!! After a lot of choice words and a lot of my anger they just gave him to me. Now he's a spoilt man with a huge avairy, perches to accomodate his deformity and his veggies chopped up just the way he likes them! Rosella's are addictive though, and all of mine are males!
