Can somebody please help us. Ever since we got our beloved 'George' a hand raised weero, 2 years ago we were hooked and went on a mission to breed and hand raise our own weeros in an especially built aviary. That was 2 years ago. We have stocked the Aviary with what we were told were 2 breeding pairs and one spare female. It appears that they must be all males as they have shown no interest in mating. The quails are going at it like there is no tomorrow but the weeros are more interested in playing with all the paraphernalia that we have supplied them with to amuse them. We are desperate to have a weero family and do not know what to do next. Does anyone have a 'definite' female or breeding pairs that we can buy. Or alternatively some advise on what we are doing wrong. We live in Serpentine WA. About 50khms south of Perth CBD

Hello and welcome
As conure88 has said, if you are able to take a few pics and post them I might be able to help you out with colours and sexing.
What type of nesting boxes do you have in for them? What are you feeding them?

Hi I live in Wanhdi not that far from you I have a spare female if you need one she is a light grey very tall and pretty. You can have her if you want shye was given to me by the local vets as she was a stray. I think she has some pearl in her - not a typical grey. When I started out I did the same thing and in getting my male to female ratio right I now have 24 birds. Buy what I think is a male find out it's female or the other way round. I have an address that you may want that will give you 99.99% definite guarentee of what sex your bird is... DNA testing.... If you call them and ask their prices they may give you discount if you get all five tested.. You send 4-5 feathers from each bird maked seperately in small zip locked bags. The feathers need to be about 4-5 cm long and plucked from the bird and straight into the bag. The description of the bird is for you only so you can identify which bird the feathers come from. Send these with a cheque to Dr David Groth at Curtin University, School of Biomedical Science, GPO Box U1987, Perth, WA, 6845. They ask for $24 per specimen. Paid to Curtin University. Let me know if you want the female. I don't need her and she doesn't have a partner. I am running out of room so you would be doing me a favour. Nikki

Sorry didn't check before I posted.... I live in Wandi and the number to ring to get the cost of the birds DNA test is 9266 7475... Dont forget to put your return address on so they can send you the results... Takes about 10 days. I am waiting on the confirmation of 6 specimens as we speak.... It took me a while to get them all sorted but I now hand rear every batch of birds I breed and I have many different colours available and people waiting for birds... Once you get them started you won't be able to stop them. I once had a pair break into a breeding box and set up home... I have 11 eggs being sat on now in the middle of winter and another couple about to go down... Good luck and let me know about the grey.
