Had to laugh today. Rob was in the avairy with the two pairs of Eclectus today and we were discussing how tame Joey has become considering he had not been handled in a long time when we bought him and since we have had him he hasn't wanted us to get too close. certainly he didnt want to be picked up. This morning we both noticed that he was really acting friendly and Rob said he kept landing on his head when he went in there. So we both went in to talk to them and Joey landed straight on him again. I picked him up and even tipped him upside down so he was laying in my arms like a baby which is what Monty does. I let him up and he flew back to Rob and started humping his arm and trying to climb up onto his head and do it there too. I was laughing hysterically by this stage. Rob told me to shuttup and said "How would you like it, you wouldnt think it was so funny then would ya" I said he wouldnt do it to me as I havent had much to do with him and thought he had just bonded with rob as Rob usually feeds them so he put him on my arm and sure enough he started humping that too. I really think we better do something about getting some nest boxes in there soon. I just hope the girls are more keen on a bit of action than we were! ;D

It sounds like you had a good belly laugh at his antics. I hope you are feeding the girls plenty of vitamins so they can keep up the pace.

LOL yeah it was pretty funny seeing Rob being such a "bloke" trying to maintain his dignity while being indecently assaulted by a bird. And yes the girls have plenty of vitimins! Even the mice get a good feed because they get so much fruit and vege that half of it ends up on the floor. Really need a suspended feeding section for these guys so at least it could be collected from the outside and thrown to the chooks who cant get to it because all our avairies are fenced off and covered with netting above the avairies to keep the owls and hawks etc out.

Me too Justin, this will be the first breeding season for all of them. Three are about 2 years old and one has never had a female in with him before so we arent getting our hopes up too much or trying not to anyway. however they are always cuddling up in pairs at night so here's hoping all the same. A friend has a pair he bought as a breeding pair that won't even sit on the same perch so at least ours actually like each other. His had an egg last year but it wasnt fertile. Rob has made some nice big breeding boxes for them now, it only took him two night so I guess he is keen to get them on the right track. Havent put them in yet. Will probably do it tomorrow.

Hi Jen, that's too funny we started off with 2 eckies a 2 year old male and a 4 and half year old female and they both live inside with us but do not like each other, the male is always trying tro hump our arm and the female tries to nest on the couch so as you do we bougth the female a 7.5 year old aviary bred cock bird and the male a 14 week old baby girl to pair them up sep but now we have 4 cages and 4 eckies inside who dont seem to like each other and are more interested in human interaction. Even the aviary bred cock bird has turned out to be extremely tame and comes out and watches tv with us. We are hoping to put the older male and female into an aviary this spring and see if they bond. Hope you have better luck than us

Well so far so good I suppose. They are all in together and havent killed each other yet. In fact they will usually all sit on the same perch at night. The youngest male and oldest hen have paired up and spend a lot of time on the nest box but not in it yet. I suspect he is a little too young and hopefully will be ready next year so not expecting too much out of them. The other too will sort themselves out in time I think. But she is also too young this year. So next year will be the one to watch I hope. A friend bought a breeding pair who apparently had one infertile egg last year and won't even sit together so I think we are doing better than them so far. At least ours like each other!
