I know I am not matt....but.......
You can pick up some very cheep chooks! If you are after a good laying hen isa browns are very good along with many other breeds. But I think that some of the batams are best as back yard pets! They lay well, and are cute and small.

she shouldn't, but you never know. Bantams are pretty strong for little birds. If you were chasing a larger bird there are just as many bigger breeds that are just as great!

I agree with Peter, for egg economy there is no doubt the Isa Brown or Hiline series of layers are the best, if you like old fashioned layers, then the Leghorns, Minorcas and Anconas are good too. Bantams are great because they are smaller and make less mess in garden beds etc, Wyandotte, Leghorn and Ancona bantams make great backyard pets and lay very well!
