Look at what I found this morning! we didn't even know she was pregnant! She must have been knocked up at the pet store! We have given her heaps of food and vitamins for her to pass on thru her milk. When can I bathe her? her hair is a little messy. When will the babe's be self sufficient? and any other tips are VERY appreciated! I wans't planning on breeding her but.... you can't help nature (and what you didn't know!)

Awwww, cuteness. Nice little surprise for you. They are lovely little piggies. The mother is stunning. Hopefully, she'll have cleaned herself up by now but you can bathe her if she needs it just as long as she's completely dried off before putting her back in with the babies. Perhaps just a bum bath would suffice? Mum will feed them for a few weeks and then she will begin to wean them off her milk. Males (boars) should be removed from mum at 4 weeks old to avoid mum or sisters getting pregnant. The females can stay with their mother. They are born ready to go. As you see, eyes open, fully furred and all teeth in place. They will start to nibble whatever is in the cage and will watch what mum does and copy. Mum and babes need a high calcium, high Vitamin C diet. Lucerne hay or chaff is high in calcium. Lots of grass is good. I feed a good grass hay, lucerne chaff with some grains, lots of grass and an assortment of vegetables and some fruit. Keep an eye on the pink eyed white baby to see whether the tips of the ears and the feet start to darken as he/she may become a Himalayan Cavy. I don't know if you've ever seen them but they are cute as and later on develop the smut above the nose as well. Of course, he/she may remain a PE white and still be adorable. Here is a sample photo of a short haired Himalayan Cavy just in case you haven't seen one before. You can put a brick under the water bottle so that the babies can reach the sipper tube to drink if they want to. They won't try to drink the water for a while though as mother's milk is enough for them. Will they be long haired or short haired? You'll have to wait and see as father is unknown. Congratulations and feel free to ask whatever.

will they be pure bred? It doesn't take long for them to get pregnant does it! ha ha ha
At an animal market there were 4 rabbits that were put in the same cage together for the first time! lets just say, I didnt realise rabbits could stack four high! The poor guinea pig that was in there too was at the bottom at times too! Not sure who was male or who was female??? they kept swapping? ha ha ha

Oh, Sorry to hear that Amanda. It seems that nature likes to take away as much as it gives, its always the way. Fingers crossed for the little brown one, it did look alot bigger than the other one.
