Do Mozzie bites make birds Ill??? I've lost one of my scarlets and we don't know why One of my Red rumps is also looking thin and I have him on Doxy but my scarlet was very unexpected...he was only a year old! We have a Mozzie plague ATM and you can't go outside without being eaten alive. Now I have a very upset girl who is calling for her mate, this is the second one she has lost

Mozzies can carry all sorts of diseases that infect people so I expect that they carry diseases that infect birds as well. Birds being so much smaller are probably more susceptible to illness and death when they are bitten than we are. I'm so sorry you lost your scarlet and I really feel for the hen losing another mate.

I thought so too, What makes me really angry is that I have nowhere to move them...I can't put them outside because of the cat problems we're having. I'll have to find a deterrant of some form

LOl It's a great Idea but if they were just pooping in my garden I'd only be annoyed! I'd have to cover my entire garden and veranda's with that stuff!!! LMAO It may be worth putting in my garden tho!

I can't find just plain citronella tho, only the lamp oil which wouldn't be healthy for the plants or the birds! I keep asking everywhere but noone knows where I could get it. Anybody know where plain citronella oil would be sold???

Maybe you could try those citronella plants? I forgot the scientific name but they smell like citronella and are supposed to keep mozzies away from where they are planted. They look slightly similar to a geranium (pelargonium).
