My lutino tiel has suddenly got orange feathers on his face, apart from that he is healthy and no other birds in the avairy have it...heres a pic i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/Bubbles_and_bill/000_0650.jpg it took me half an hour to get this pic, hes very camera shy and in the mean time his missus was on my shoulder looking for food...lol also i have baby birds leaving next week they are now about 7 an a half to 8 weeks old and have been without hr mix for 4 days, how do i know they are 100% weaned before i let them go , also one lutino which i put in a separate cage will only eat seed off the bottom of the cage not out of her dish and im not sure how much she is eating and whether shes drinking...

Hi Bubbles, The orange pigmentation on the face is very common in lutino and cinnamon weeros from my past experience. I have read that it can be linked to stress and others suggest it is just excess pigmentation on the face. I would not worry about it as I have had many that do this and often change back to normal. One lutino hen does it when she is breeding here. Hopefully it will change back to normal soon. With the babies, you should be able to tell if they are weaned if they are feeding well and they are not losing heaps of weight, you should feel alot of seed in their crops when you gently feel around there. As for the bird eating off the floor, I would try only leaving seed in the container and placing her near it as much as possible so that she learns that is where seed comes from. They normally drink on their own, however if you are worried I would try dipping her beak gently in the water container just to remind her where it is and what is in it! Good luck with it all and please let us know how it all goes. Matt
