Have you ever heard a goat young scream? It is somewhere between a baby human being murdered and some other hidious noise. It's extremely loud and will send shivers down even the most brutal person's spine!
soap, the young goat I got at the markets was starting to scream everytime we caught her. which was unusual, as she normally liked the attention. I just thought she didn't like us touching her anymore. but when I caught her yesterday to check her for lice, she screamed like no tommorrow. Our neighbours must have thought we were killing someone.
anyway, all of a sudden blood started to spray from her horn. the poor thing had some how ripped her horn of, and it was hanging litterally but a thread. she must have done it a few days ago, but it kept drying half broken, and i didn't notice. anyway I had to try and remove the horn as everytime she moved it would wobble and cause her more pain, so she would run around even more, not looking where she was going, and hitting into things. so matt had to hold her while i tried to remove the horn. but it wouldn't break free (meanwhile cleaning the open wound and trying to stop the bleeding). so the vet came, and gave her some pain killers and anti biotics. We cut the horn off (don't forget the poor girl is screaming all the while, and there is blood spraying everywhere). Then she was fine. lol. Five minutes later she was eating grass. apparently the horns are rich in blood vessels and nerve endings, so make it a bad place for a goat to hurt. But apparently they de-horn goats all the time just like that with no pain help or anything. luckily the horn will grow back in time. But until then, she will also be known as unigoat
