Most of the time it's the PH of the rainwater that kills them.... my Dad found that out the hard way, and killed all my fish by doing me a "favour"

Rainwater is soft and is acidic, not enough dissolved salts Tap water is hard and is alkaline, lots of salts
Discus, most tetra species, angels are a few that love rainwater
I used to keep goldfish in rainwater, my two big ones will be swapping over slowly to rainwater
Apparently Axolotyls need a pH of 6.5 to around 8.0 is acceptable hardness, so not a good idea to put them in rainwater

LOL I know! I have kept fish since I was 10 and I have kept marine before but my problem with marine was heat... didn't have enough $$ for a chiller so I quit that. I filter all my H2O, the water here is sooo C***!!! I add salts etc to my tanks according to the fish. I have tetra, rainbows, Ornamental Goldfish, cichlids, bettas, and electric fish
