Here are my babies - these guys are my pride and joy and I love them to bits. This is my old boy Sparky - he is 11 now and only just 2 days ago has permanently dislocated one of his back knees so it looks like a big op is on the cards. He has 4 more days on some meds to see how that goes - fingers crossed because I don't want to put him through the operation. And this is my girl Madison - she is such a tart! She has it in her head that everyone just loves her and she is so cute and can get away with anything! Ok ok - it is hard to resist her at the best of times - and she has managed to win over even the most anti-dog people (especially blokes who think the only good dog is a big tough one)! And this is Bella (and Whoopi) - Bella is mum and dads Chihuahua and is Madison's best friend! She comes and stays most weekends to have a play and do a bit of chook rustling (believe me - its a site and a half)!

It has something to do with their call in the wild. Here it's always been called the weero, & alot of poeple (like myself) had no idea a weero was a cockatiel until I got online & checked it out a couple of years ago!!!
Did you know cockatiles also used to only be called quarions by all eastern staters a long long time ago but eventually cockatiel pushed it's way in, I think cockatiel was american? At one stage they started to call it the cockatoo parrot but that was short lived, hmmm I wonder why LOL
Anyway I just found all this quarion stuff out today in the local birdy news paper so I thought I'd share! ;D

I also heard somewhere that Weero is an aboriginal word and whatever it means is somehow related to the bird (probably their call as Kim said)!
Yeh I had no idea that it was mainly WA who called them Weero's until I started on a cat forum a few months ago and mentioned the Weero's and one member replied "you must be from Perth"!
I've become rather fond of the term "tiel" - seems to be popular these days for referring to them!

I always used to say weero & because I was on us forums most of the time they had no idea what I was talking about, same thing with our galah - they call rose breasted cockatoo. They find 'galah' dimeaning!! LOL typical US alwasy gotta change things to suit them Anyway I just find it easier to say tiel because everyone knows what your talking about wherever you are in the world. I still prefer weero thoguh because that's what i grew up with ;D In the UK they seem to know what we talk about when we mention galah's & weero's.
