Yeeeessss Eagle ... thats only cause you want more kids isn't it ... hehe
I think its great that we can have a convo like this and no one gets flared up about it!!
Now Peter has said I am a vege - thats not entirely true. I still eat chicken and fish. I haven't eaten red meat (or turkey / pork / etc) for nearly 12 years now and don't intend to anytime soon either. This is for several reasons - one is my affection for animals, but it is mainly because I just don't like the taste! The day I stopped eating red meat was our second day in Papua New Guinea where we went to a local market and .... well lets just say there were animals in there that should NEVER end up on someones plate. That was enough to finish me off.
Peter - a tip for keeping sheep for slaughtering - don't name them! I used to have 6 - I was told not to get attached to them - I did - they ended up in the freezer - with their names written on the gladwrap to identify them.
Got to go see my therapist now but will be back later .....

Holly- I appreciate it is easier not to associate the meat with an animal, however, I really do find that to be nieve in a way. Not that it is wrong etc. I can understand how the majority of people live life like that and it works, however, I feel it would be wrong for those people to then turn to someone who does eat an animal they have grown etc and tell them it is wrong. That where I have the problem Bel- It is great that we can have a discussion about this with out flarred! You should have seen the stupid fools in my tutorials at uni who ended up with half my pencil case imbeded in their forehead!!!! lol Trust me, we NEVER name animals for the freezer........I have made that mistake twice! Once was a rooster I hatched in my room and called baby when I was about 7 or so. When "baby" began to crow there was no room for another rooster on the place (or so my grandfather said) so he went with the rest of the roosters to be killed. It didn't really bother me at that time, as he wasn't really tame or cute anymore. Then when our friends asked us to their house for a camp fire meal they asked us to bring one of our own chooks to try, so out of the freezer came baby, and into the pot he went. While chewing on his leg, I realised who it was, and started to bawl. The crying must have been contagous as all of ud kids (5 of us) were bawling our eyes out. lol baby would have wanted it that way....lol The other time was Basil the lamb. He was born he, and lived his life here. We named him......Big mistake....We used to call him like a sheep BAAAAAAAASIL. When basil went on the BBQ dad, matt and I would think it was funny to start calling BAAAAAASIL, then mum and my sister would get upset, and ouldn't eat it. MORE CHOPS FOR US BUT!!! lol

I dont block out where it came from and I appreciate the work that goes into the preparation. I realy dont envy the slaughterers at all! I guess they get used to it as its their job. I educate my kids and tell them where the meat comes from so they arent like some kids, think that milk comes from the shop!! I think thats terrible! LOL But I just coulnt bring myself to kill something I raised I guess, I know I would get attached even though I'm not meant to And I def cant become vegetarian, I love meat!!! LOL
