Finally uploaded pics.....so be prepared to be dazzled!!!!...
Well Ive been to Bali with Martin, two of my three kids and our dearest friends of 20+ years..they all know of my love of birds and agreed to go to the Bali bird Park..however...they didnt want to come in just wait for us..wot a mistake for them....why???...well 2 hours later Martin, Louisa and me came out!!!...LMAO..and I wasnt ready to leave when I did!!!!...
All I can say is..OMG!!!!!..anyone going to Bali has to go here....I'll try put the pics in order and explain as I go....
Its a stinkin hot humid day which is atypical of Bali..only difference between the temps is..a few degrees....warm and humid all the time...the weather didnt bother me and Ive come home lookin like a coon...So I enter the bird park and this is my first introduction to what is in stall for me...
He/she is just hangin there...free on a tree as I walk through..there is also a blue macaw few eccies...just out there at hands reach..so it is at this point I wet myself for the first time...I am told by one of the keepers..that these are the unfriendly birds and if I continue on I'll find the touchable ones!!!!...OMG!!!!! so I venture on....oh that bird is also a Indonesian cockatoo....so further on I find heavan.....check these out...
They told me that the CAG is unfriendly and I was advised not even to attempt to touch him as more than likely I will get bitten!!!..Yeah...right!!!..Like I'll listen....this is my one and only chance to touch a CAG.....once again its time to change the knickers!!!!..LMAO!!!!
NOw I have no idea what the next bird is..but he.she wasnt very friendly and I felt the bird was rather frigtened so I didnt push my luck.....oh and arent these green macaws cute!!!..they were nesting!!
So then I eye spy a touchable macaw...yup..new knickers please!!!
And they do like to eat peanuts!!!!...
The keeper was a little worried when I allowed the macaw to eat from my mouth but even if I had of lost a lip it wouldnt have bothered me.....this macaw is 18 months old and a female...I cant rememeber their names.....
so off I go for a walk around looking for birds like DH..couldnt find any so I end up back with the macaw...there is no one around at this time so I start to rev her up and play...with her...
They make funny noises when they play....she did grab my knuckle and give it a firm bite....I tell ya she could of crushed my knuckle easierly within seconds...there beaks are extremely strong....now these birds are used to the tourists and everyone get these birds on their shoulders for pics.....as I ahd reved her up and tourists were coming up the path I ahd to quickly try and pacify her before they got there incase she bit....as you can see she responded well...
We went to the free flight show..where about 6 species of birds perform tricks if you like...the birds that flew free were eagles, hawks, MACAWS!!..they were amazing to watch...a few cockies ....one of the tricks of the cockies that they called for a volunteer for..(yes..I did volunteer qucik smart) is to stand with money in your hand and the cocky will fly over and take the money....
They give your money back at the end but I left it with them for a pack of peanuts for the birds...
So as I head back to say goodbye to the macaw the keeper says quick Anna Marie is out.....go have a hold.....didnt need much persuasion!!!!
She is 14 years old and an absolute beautiful natured bird......OH and apparrently you also have to hold this sooky macaw....LMAO
Sorry about the quality of a coupla the pics but Martin forgot the flash so I had to over exspose the pics so you could see them clearely...from here we went to the stinkin monkey forrest...they are feral and mongrels...and they bite......ahahahah..anyway few days later we went to Denpasaar..our driver took us to the markets the locals go to to sell bird etc.....I have to say I was rather sickened by what I saw and had to dettach from the market..their conditions and health were disgusting to say the least...many birds cramped in small cages with filthy water....fly blown food......the lorikeets were fed gluey rice and bananas....but it gives you a idea how the other half live..I really wanted to release the birds but as I said I had to detach from what I saw....Bali is a third world country..but dont be fooled into thinking they are hard up...they arent..they are just lazy and dont plan ahead....or think of their futures....
The 2 pics of lorikeets..I asked the price and was told 350 000rp...you only pay 1/3 of the asking price as you barter down..so I could of brought one of the lorikeets for $14 Aus.....I WISH!!!!..due to avain flu running rift in Indonesia I wouldnt even try to arrange a legimite purchase........or a illegal one either!!!!!...AHAHHAH...
So it was a fantastic day going to the park...even if I did need to frequently change my knickers....but I am sure now you can see why ...
