Somehow one of my breeding aviaries on my cockatiels was left open. I lost a family of quails and one of the parents for my cockatiel baby. They are pearl pieds and I have no idea whether it is the male or the female that stayed with the baby in the nest. (would the female be more likely to stay with baby or the male or even odds would you say? ) I removed the baby as it is 8 days old and I didn't think a sole parent could do the whole job and I didn't want to wake up one morning to find it abandoned and dead. I am already raising one of the same age so one more didn't matter. Do you think the one bird would have kept going or did I do the right thing removing it? Baby had a full belly when I took it out. Any comments would be appreciated
