Yesterday I had all my piggies in their outdoor hutch so they could eat the grass down. I had just gotten 5 more that morning. I chucked the new ones right into our outdoor hutch and watched them for a few minutes to make sure everything was going fine and there were no fights. Everyone was fine so I went inside and had lunch. When I came back out the cage had been ruined and all my guinea pigs (12 in total) were out and this massive brown dog who had been hanging around our house a few days before was running off down the driveway, My mum was looking at it through the kitchen window and she thinks it had something black in its mouth, lets pray it was either a chicken or nothing at all. I have managed to round up 8 of my pigs but 4 are still missing, a black sow who was pregnant(new), a baby one(new), my boar and a brown pregnant sow. We have 5 acres and a BIG garden so they could be anywhere. Right now I think they are either under the house or in the garden. I'm HOPING they will return to our hutch because that is where the other guinea pigs are and the food is. so far there is no sign of them but if anyone has any useful methods on how to catch them I would really really appreciate it. I'm really worried about them, the black sow was due to have her babies next week and the baby guinea pig was only about a month old. thankyou

Thats bad news! I hope they come out for the food, when one of ours gets out it tends to migrate back to the others pretty soon after because they like the company and the food! Good luck finding them and I hope the owner of that d**n dog keeps it on their own property! MY friends lived in Bridgetown up until last year and they had problems with a large brown dog coming in and eating their chooks! Probably the same one. Good luck.

What a terrible thing to happen. All you can do is hope that they come back for the food and the company of the others. I hope you manage to catch them!!!!!!

Oh how awful. can you get your hands on a wildlife trap or maybe try fencing around the hutch with a bit of avairy wire and the make a tunnel or two that narrows as it goes down in the hope that they will squeexe in and then not be able to get back out in case they come around when it is dark. I find on nice nights ours seem to be more active at night than in the day. Good luck anyway, please let us know how you go. Jenny

Im figgin sick of bad pet owners who cant look after their dogs and cats! They should all friggin stay on the owners property. Like Matt says ours like to come back to their friends if they get out. Hopefully yours will too.
Call the ranger on the dog!

Thanks for all the support guys and thanks for the info Jen. There is still no sign of them We've been scattering some of their food around the cage but they havn't shown themselves while I've been around. I'll try your idea Jen. We most definetly will be calling the ranger on the dog, he went to my neighbours house and killed a few of her chooks too! When I see the owner of that dog she had better watch out! We had to put one of our young guinea pigs down because the dog actually broke it's(the guinea pigs) leg! Mandav I actually have a friend who has lots of guinea pigs for sale, that's where we got the new ones from. Her pigs arnt show quality and are all different breeds. they are $5 each. email me and I can give you here number if you're interested. I MISS MY PIGGIES!

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about your piggies. Fingers crossed the missing ones come home and that the owner of the dog takes some responsibility.
