We seem to grow all our fruit and veges for our birds. I don't think I got to eat ANY of the sweetcorn we planted last year not to mention the brocolli, capsicum, etc etc. We also grow Chillis, capsicum, zucchini, and tomatoes of which there are plenty for us to share (but the dogs LOVE them and will even pick there own while they are still green if we dont keep them out of the vege patch.
we also have apricots, strawberries, plums, lemon, and cherry plums.
We have a Staffy and a Dobermann and the Dobermann stands under the apricot tree so the staffy can put his paws on her back and pluck the apricots off, she eats what drops and he climbs up onto the brick BBQ to get some more for himself. It is truly hilarious to watch!
Does anyone have any advice for growing pomegranites as we went and bought a tree today because we've heard the birds (especially Ekkies) love them. Keep in mind we have reasonably cold weather down here although not as bad as everyone says! We are going to keep it in a huge pot for the next 4-6 months maybe until we move to the farm. It is about a metre tall now

Hey jen,
Thats great that you grow all the vegies and fruit for your birds! Our birds get alot of the things we have grown too! With the pomegranite tree I am unsure if there is any special care that it needs that would be different to most fruit trees. Actually, I would say they are very hardy trees. We had one here that we never ever cared for, and it fruited every year, until the goats at it to the ground........... But many of the old market gardens around here have them growing willy nilly on their properties, and they never seem to care for them at all, and they fruit spectacuarlly. Needless to say matt and I do drive by pomegranite runs for the birds! Waste ot want not! Every single one of our parrots love them!

Thanks Peter, thats good to hear. I'm surprised you bother to plant anything at all with such wonderful fruit and vege around you "free for the picking", Why its virtually growing wild over there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
