I swear my little grey leghorn is the biggest adventurer chicken I have come across yet! I cannot keep her in her pen, every day she is out in the main front and side yard,( which mind you never has the gates closed!! ) she picks and scrathces until her hearts content then pops back over the fence. Two days ago I walked out to the back yard and heard alot of flapping and baning on the carport roof, well here she is up ON the roof!! ! I couldn't believe it! I have no idea how she got up there!! She has her wings clipped and all!! She got down ok. She has found herself a new egg laying spot to! she gets into the carport, where at the moment is full of garage sale stuff, and sits in a small old entertainment unit cabinet ready for the sale, and lays her eggs in there!! She is always up to mischief and always somewhere shes not supposed to be!! Until we move to the new house, hehehehe!!! She will have a better pen then and will get out when I let her out!!

Trust me, we have had a few hens like that! Bloody things!!!! lol. Are both her wings cut? cutting just one wing is better as it puts them off balance. if you cut them both it evens it up and they can still manage to fly somewhat.
Leghorns seem to be like that! Chooks can be some of the most entertaining (and stupid) pets!!!

I had one like that too. I had about 7 hens and one got taken by a fox. The very next day "chook chook" (very original name eh?) decided it was no longer safe to live in the chook house and decided to sare my Dobermanns bed on the verandah. She would eat Ashka's dog food and peck her if she wouldn't move over and let her in. She is the only one that survived the foxes where I lived in the end and she moved house with me 3 times. Faithfully layed an egg everyday starting from the day of my birthday!! She was so cool. Used to love sitting on the lawn with me and the dogs and we would all share a watermelon on hot days.

Hens are such funny little critters. LOL My frizzle girl Flossy gave me a scare the other day. I thought she'd escaped out the gate while we were bringing an aviary into the back yard. I couldn't find her anywhere, checked in every bush, container, box, clump of grass, under the house, even asked the neighbours. Anyway next morning she's back Went to check her later in the morning and she's gone again Did the search again then happened to notice a bit of loose dirt under a large gas bottle lying on it's side that had been left here. When I put my hand underneath, there was Flossy and she was sitting on 15 eggs I thought they weren't laying much, guess I was wrong.

They certainly are characters.
My Barneveldter hen (Lady) is in love with a Khaki Campbell Drake (Duke). I went and got her a stunning rooster. I built them a new deluxe pen, clipped her wing and put them both in to get acquainted. I turned around and there she was waiting at the door of the old pen waiting to go back in to her drake. I tried lots of times in different ways all with the same result. I have now given up and she lives with her beloved Duke.

lol @ the barnavelder hen in love with the drake! When a hen gets an idea in her head she will do it no matter what! Some get a routine going and just never change it.

LOL, thanks for sharing all your stories!! They are wonderful creatures aren't they?? Well the move did'nt stop old Misty my adverturer!! The first day we moved the chooks over she got into the next door neighbours yard (over a 6 foot fence! and yes her wing is clipped!!!) and dug up all her beautiful rose gardens!! The nieghbour just handed her over to my other half and said "I gather this is your?" She was very nice about the whole thing. Dear other half thought he'd do the good thing and clip her wingS for me! Yes now boht wings are clipped!! But funny she hasn't got out again!!?!
