:-[Hi every one, Well I have some sad news abut our baby budgie. I went down to check the box today as it is a bit wet and cold here, and one of the adults had gotten into the box and killed the baby!! The poor little thing was doing soooo well to, just started getting its little feathers and was looking strong. It was definately attacked, and not killed from the cold. Poor baby

That's so sad, especially when you don't know why. Maybe another hen wanted the nest site if they are in a communal group. That's the only reason I can think of

I am so sorry Natenla. I hope your budgies continue to breed and bring you more babies that live.

OH NO! hOW HORRIBLE! Poor little thing!
I would suggest putting in extra nest boxes (more the one per hen) to limit other birds killing others babies!

There are only 2 breeding pair and 3 nest boxes. And the other ones dont seem to want that nest box either so I dont know.

sometimes you can just get a trouble budgie, that will just terrorise everyone else! maybe getting rid of it is a good idea!

Could be the reason. I dont know which one would be the "trouble maker though" ?!? Hmmm dont know just wait and see maybe?

I found with my budgies they would fight over the same box even if there extra boxes for them to choose from, they still wanted that same box. I even think they get jealous of each other that is why they fight (ones got babies the other doesn't, I want that mate of hers, etc.) Sounds almost like people...

Yeah I think it could have been a jealousy thing, but was thinking that would be silly, cause I wasnt sure if they got jealous or not?! but Unfortuneatly I lost who i thought was the culprit yesterday. Sick ...don't know why? I think she may have got a cold from the rain we have been getting?! She went prety fast. Poor thing.

Budgies are wonderful birds and a pleasure to breed.... BUT....they can be the most vicious things on the planet. If you get a rouge hen she will kill any baby she finds and will attempt to take over a nest box just for the heck of it, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it and the best thing to do is get rid of her,she will be easy enough to find she is the one with the blood all over her face. I have been breeding budgies for a lot of years and I am still to figure out the little devils.
