Well I splurged today bigtime! ;D My sister works in a camera shop and one of her clients decided to trade his Canon (EOS 350D) camera in this week so i bought it! It is 8.0 megapixel and was released in 2005 when it retailed for about $1599. I paid $650 with a 28-75mm lens which is better than the standard one it comes with. This lens is not ideal for taking "wild" bird pictures but I will look at getting another lens to do that. For now this lens will do the job for our birds. I haven't actually got the manual yet (my sis forgot to give it to me) so I don't really know all about operating it but here is my very first picture of Monty that I took today. He will probably be the most photographed bird around here for a while while i get used to it. Isn't he handsome and such a poser...

Looks Great Jen We just bought a new camera too. ours is 10.1 mega pixels. The 8 & 10's take really great High resolution pics. You're going to have a ton of fun. You'll definately notice the difference in your photos. J

Yes Justin I'm much happier with the resolution naturally but what I love is the ability to alter the depth of field and exposure etc that make such a huge difference to your photos and is so much more difficult to achieve otherwise.

It's awesome what you can do. Ours you can adjust how much light it captures and stuff too. I really want to get some add on lenses but I just don't have the $$$ to allocate to it right now.

I know the feeling there Justin, I realllly want a good telephoto lens but have to stop buying birds and save a bit more money first! Hope my sister continues working in the camera shop for a while so she can find me a bargain! 800mm zoom would be nice to start with ;D I have planned my first shots when I can buy it too. On the farm we are moving to (yeah still waiting!) There are at least 5 wedge-tailed eagles in residence and I hope to find their nesting sites and wait for babies. I have been told the two pairs breed every year. A friend also does the occasional cull of the massive amounts of roos on the property so it would be a good opportunity if I can ask him to leave a carcass somewhere and build a bit of a "hide" to take pictures from when they come down to eat. The farm is 3000 acres and huge amounts are uncleared so I hope the birdlife will reflect this. Other birds I can't wait to try photographing will be the Scarlet Robin and The Red-capped Robin (I have seen these on the farm already) Rainbow Bee-eater (I haven't ever seen one but they are down this way apparently) Splendid fairy-wren (heaps of these down here) Purple crowned lorikeet (our only native lorrikeet in the South-west) and then I would love to see how many different birds of prey such as eagles, harriets, kites, falcons and owls I could find as there are so many different types and they fascinate me. I think that oughta keep me busy for a while!

Well we are working on it filling a little bit of it. We have bought 9 avairies in the last few months in preperation and as I mentioned somewhere else around here we scored enough newish heavy box steel and galv sheeting to build a fairly big ekkie avairy and probably a nice sized flight avairy as well. Plus with all the natural bushland etc it won't be a hardship to regularly replace branches and perches when needed.

Thats a great pic Jen!! Monty is looking really good. How's Charlotte coming along??
Any update on timing for the move?? Staring at those aviaries every day must be hell .. haha!

No update yet unfortunately. Luckily we have stored some of the avairies at the in-laws place and the rest have already been taken out to the farm so we don't have to stare at them. Its funny because people keep knocking on the door at the out-laws house and asking them if they are thinking of selling all the empty avairies! Hope they don't get tempted to sell them ;D
Charlotte is good too although still not as photogenic as my baby but then I'm a bit bias!
