My Chocolate otter Netherland Dwarf named Choco that I got from Nadine a few years back died immediately after giving birth to 3 healthy babies on Wednesday. The same day a dwarf lop who has always had successful litters of around 9 babies had 3 still born babies. I had specifically aimed at them giving birth on the same day as Choco was not a very good mum, losing several litters and I wanted to be able to take them away from her and foster them with a good, experienced mother. It was freaky that they both had 3 each.
I had waited up until 1.30 am for Lops to be born so that I could put the Netherland babies in. I removed Rubies dead babies, rubbed the other babies thoroughly with the fur from her nest and she has successfully fostered them.
So the the upside to the story is that at least one litter of babies will survive and Ruby is happily rearing some babies.
It just goes to show that careful planning can pay off.

Yes, I am sad but also think that I have been lucky to have some good come out of the situation.

Bit of a rollercoaster for you. Thankfully the babies are being well looked after. It's such a shame about the other mum and the bubs.

The babies are doing really well. Maybe a bit tooooo fat, with a mum of a much larger breed, there certainly is more than enough milk. I am really hoping that one is a female so that I can continue with my lines. I will post some pics when they start coming out of the nest which should be any day now.
