Almos injury was due to coming of the back of he ute, the ute was only doing @30k, but because the dog is so large he fell quite hard His operation cost $5000 ( I had o get a loan) but I wasn't going to see a otherwise healthy dog put to sleep. He completely smashed his hip and broke his leg. They had to take bone from his shoulder to graft onto his leg. He also now has a steel rod in his leg that is the biggest ever made by veternarians.

yes they are definately all adorable!!!
I know how you felt about the huge vet bill. My Dobermann Ashka got tetnus when she was 3 and I spent about $5000 keeping her alive. The vet was very good to me and although she spent months at the vet they only charged me for the medicines etc and not the usual daily charges. It was/is pretty rare for a dog to get Tetnus apparently only usually found in horses and cats so the vet was on the phone everyday to Murdoch university asking questions. He had only seen a dog with tetnus once before in all his time as a vet. But we didn't give up and a year later i mated her with an Australian champion and she had 11 beautiful puppies! She died a couple of years ago when she was 10 and I will never be able to replace her. She was truly my "soul-mate"
My fiance loves bulldogs but I have heard they can only give birth with assistance due to the short solid bodies that is desired in this breed and not being able to turn their heads/bodies far enough to assist themselves. Did your dogs have any trouble or is this a myth? Would love to hear differently. Jen

::)Ahh sorry its taken me so long to get back to you Jen, I haven't had much time in the last 6 weeks, as we actually have a litter at the moment. Your partner is right about the difficulties Bulldogs have whelping, although I have had bitches that have also whepled naturally, with no assistance at all. It all depends on the overall structure of the particular dog. Those with shorter faces and bodies are more desirable for the show scene, however dogs with longer noses and bodies prove to be alot more capable of whelping naturally. The Bulldog of today is improving, as the shorter type are slowly getting phased out. It is up to breeders to preserve this breed or they run at risk of becoming extinct.

Good on you for being one of those breeders that are trying to keep up the real breed!! I found the same thing with staffies, when I used to breed and show mine, they never really did well in the show ring because the other dogs were all very stocky, (and that is the way even the judges are going!) where as mine were the not so stocky type, the way they should be!! the thing is, staffies arent meant to be over stocky like most people think, they were originally bred for bear baiting and if they were that stocky they wouldnt have been very agile at all!! But you get the big tough guys ect that want a tough looking dog and dont care about breed standards, just how tough the dog looks. Not good!! It realy annoys me that people try to change a breed to what they like and not for what its supposed to be.
