I have been keeping an eye on my king quails that had all those eggs. She hasnt been sitting on them for around 1 week now, I thought I'd break open 1 egg since they were so cold for so long, and sadly it had a fuly formed baby in it . So I would say that most of the 12 eggs would have been fetile!! Obviously the eggs will be no good now, all the babies would be well and truely dead She has a few more eggs there I think now cause they are a different colour some are brown (i think the older ones) and some are a bluey brown, would they be the new eggs? I want to throw the old eggs, so she has more room to lay

My quail wouldnt lay a single egg, then one day, all of a sudden, all of my hens (i think seven or so) decided to lay, and haven't stopped since. So now there are nests everywhere! and i cant tell where eggs are suppose to be.

What a shame. Hope she does better with the new eggs.

Hey Nat - sorry to hear that. I really wish we could understand birds sometimes. The same thing happened with my first lot of chooks I hatched from the incubator. About 10 didn't hatch and same thing - fully formed but didn't hatch. It is really sad to think they got through the whole process only to die I would just leave her to it - you will find she soon kicks out those that she doesn't want to sit on - then you can chuck them!

You could try to candle them with a small torch and throw out any eggs that are really dark because they would be the older ones with the fully formed chicks in them, the new ones will be clearer to see through as the chicks havent formed yet....unless they are infertile eggs from the first clutch, in that case they will explode later...lol.
