We were sitting around having a drink last night and heard a cheeping sound. Finally worked out it was coming from the incubator and found one very cute little japanese quail sitting there. While we watched another practically jumped out of its shell followed by two more a little while later. They are so cute and so quick! You wouldnt want one to get out as I think you would have a hard time catching it again. One looks just like a miniture baby emu. Here is a picture ...

You know I have hatched alot of chickens out of the incubator here over the last 7 years, but I still find it amazing and interesting everytime a hatch is due! I have never hatched Japanese quail before, The look like giant versions of king quail. Hope everything goes well for you with the hatches.

They are cute! Hope they all go well! It is amazing watching them hatch! Like matt said, after an easy 1000 chicks being hatched here in the last few years, still amazes me!

Well after Holly posted about having eggs going to waste we put 8 from her quails in the incubator and 6 little "mini emus" hatched a couple of days ago. Absolutely the cutest thing and truly amazing that they can eat and drink by themselves almost the minute they are on their feet. Afterall it takes us about a year to achieve the same result!
