I agree 1000 % justin I also woek fulltime up to 60 hours a week most weeks I go t in to birds because im elergic (spelling) to cats and dogs ans all my fish usto die on me so i bought 6 budgies for $150.00 in 2003 and look at me now i have susceeded at somthing !!!!!! im in it for the challege more than the money and it is the only thing im realy good at ! The feeling i get when i have perched a bird is so great i can not explain it P.S HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE It's a brilliant feeling isn't it. I always feel a huge sense of accomplishment when I've bought a new set of birds or something for them. Breeding & raising birds is one of the few things I'm good at as well. I take immense pride in my guys here and am proud of the reputation I've built. You're right it's challenging breeding birds but the amount of satisfaction you can get knowing full well that you managed to successfully breed a pair of birds that are notoriously hard to breed is huge.

Hi Boys!!..my turn....been off post a bit... I feel a bird is worth only what a person is prepared to pay.. think on this...odd lateral thinking I have... my dearest friend Sharon (ones we went to Bali with) cant get enough of antiques....pays hugeeeeeeeeeeee prices for a dresser/mirror or whatever, cause its 150 years old , english oak..blah blah blah....I go to the museum..Ive always wanted a fossil..I pick up a nautoloid egg from Morrocco...40 million years old.....awesome....little peice....paid $9.50....I ask ya...go figure..... Ive been offered up to 10K for D*ckette....sure..I could grab the money and run..but would I ever have the pleasure of a crazy bird like her? ....in short.....no...she is priceless.....10k??...I'd p*ss it up the wall in a heart beat....including D*ckette....most my birds have been givin to me....Ive spent at the top end..maybe $300 on birds.....spent more money on their accomadation than them!!!..lmao...

I spend more on my animals than me...AND they always have their food bought before I buy for myself....they may lack a very few "high" luxuries but they are happy and extremely content....and if the cats were hungury I am sure they would attack the chooks that they just mosey on around and actually play with. My hens eat out of the dog bowls...not bad when it is a hungry Lab's dinner and his head is in it. I was offered $25,000 for my Lab about 7yrs ago when I owned the pet shop...well I am still poor and he is still sleeping AND snoring right here at my feet...and he was desed when I was given that offer,so that has to say somethiung for him....and me I suppose but I choose to put it all onto his breeding, shame his line will end with him as he is the only surviving dog/BOBBA from that line and closest I can get now is a 3rd or 4th cousin.

i know what you mean about the monetary value of things. Unfortunately far to many think that because they can afford something it should be theres. Take my African Grey Bandit. I've been offered money for him but I've told people. Make me the richest guy in the world & I still wouldn't sell him. His quirks and vocabulary and all the little things he does make him so unique.
He's more than just a companion bird - I'd go as far to say his more like a friend.
