the western australia government is worried because they don't want any escape'es (not that any should get out) to end up like the population of rambow lorikeets that you have. you must remember that they aren't native to W.A.

I totally understand that! However, why allow ringnecks and alex's and love birds etc which would be a far greater threat! and why allow them in the rest of aust? they have not caused any probs anywhere else yet! It has always been my dream to own one.......but unless i leave home I cant

Exactly! It's not like the Grey's are native to any part of AUS to begin with!!!

The threat of them becoming over populated is possible with any bird species - thats why I don't understand what CALM's problem is. And like you said Peter - why allow Ringnecks, etc, into the state - I would have thought they would have been a bigger threat.
Given what the Greys cost the likelihood of escapees is very slim, plus if one landed in your backyard wouldn't you be inclined to grab it quick - hehe!
I put them into the same sorta catagory as Eclectus - and we are allowed to have them over here!

Try several...one to your member for environment, ask calm and ask them who you'd write to about the licensing laws etc then send one to them and one to your local member for federal laws

I think it is ridiculous. All birds have the potential to survive in the wild.
There are Ringnecks in England, Quakers in North America, Lovebirds in America, so i really don't see the point in banning African Greys and Quakers in WA. Especially when they are legal in all other parts of Australia.
I have only ever seen one in real life once, and i must say, they are beautiful and very intelligent.
