I recently rescued a turtle (oblong) he was being neglected and i offered to take him and the owner happily handed him over- i have two other turtles and they are very healthy.
My problem is that this one has a small amount of shell rot, i have given him basking lights and uv lights and since he hasnt been basking on his own i have been taking him outside to bask- that way he cant dive into the water again lol. How else do i treat this, i am heading to perth in a week so will try and find a vet that can help me out- but in the meantime if anyone could help itd be great!

A salt water bath will help kill any bacteria, your best bet is the salt they use to make up marine water, not cheap but the best. If not lots of clean kitchen salt. Make it up in fresh water and have a supervised bath for up to half an hour, let him dry off then use some betadine and paint it on the area and let it dry in, then in a fresh tub let him wash any excess off. He probably got the shell rot from a combo of little to no UVB, poor diet and dirty water. if you get his diet tip top and the UVB (which you are doing) he'll heal a lot quicker. But definately a vet trip for a check up wouldn't hurt the poor little tike. PS Photo's if you can I love turtles, another thing I want but cannot have One day soon..... have the plans just need the funds, always the way!

I agree with Amanda, also keep dry docking him as the moisture will slow the healing process, we apply critic cream to turtles with damaged shells and it speeds up the healing process, normally every 2 or 3 days, U may need to see a vet though just to get some treatment.

Thanks guys,
I have done what you have reccomended Amanda, he seems to have put on a bit of weight since i got him, he was pretty skinny and i swear i can see imrpovement in his shell already! im not going to put him any where near my turtles for a while!!!
I will ask for some critic cream at the vets Matt, i want it to heal quickly as possible!
